July 4th---The Independence Day

We did nothing special as it is the American Independence Day.

I just hung around with Zhu Rong and took lots of pictures. The environment is fantastic here compared to China. Everything here is like a picture and we are moving creatures in it. There are less people and cars and we find it is very easy to cross the road compared to Beijing.

Other people told me there was a parade in the morning but we missed it. It was a pity that I failed to take a photo of the American parade.

Most of the stores and restaurants do not work today. We went to 4 or 5 restaurants and finally found one sandwich restaurant on the corner of the E.Liberty St.(actually I forgot its name, just remembered that it sold sandwiches). Although we had a little trouble to set our orders at first because of the condiments we had never heard of before, the food was very tasty and it was not expensive at all.

Late in the afternoon, we 6 people went past a Hall(maybe North Hall) and were excited to see lots of people there on the lawn. There was a festival for the band NOMO and some singers sang on the stage with some people dancing in the front. That's really cool!

Today I discovered a very amusing thing that it usually gets dark at 7:30 in summer in Beijing and the sun comes up at 5 to 6, but it gets dark here after 9:00! I don't know when the sun comes up here in the morning but it must be before 6! Zhu Rong and me got lost at first because we tried to tell the direction only by the sun and we soon found out the sun was still in the southeast at noon while it is usually right in the south at noon in Beijing!

Isn't it the truth that Ann Arbor and Beijing are almost at the same latitude? They should have almost the same length of the day. I'm confused why they are so different in this time issue except for the jet lag?
